Meet Our New Musical
Director, David Boarder
DAVID BOARDER began piano lessons
when he was six and the organ when he could reach the pedals.
At Liverpool University he studied with Caleb Jarvis,
the City Organist. After FRCO he was the first student to
take the University’s new postgraduate B.Mus in performance
studies. This included a ‘finals’ recital in the (then new)
Metropolitan Cathedral.

After university David taught in Shrewsbury, played at St
Mary’s, a beautiful church with wonderful stained glass and
a splendid 4 manual Binns organ and conducted Shrewsbury
Choral Society, Chamber Singers and a new Youth Choir. After
four years in Shrewsbury David moved to Durham where he taught
the music elements in the Teacher Training Colleges associated
with the university’s B Ed degree, tutored for the Open University
and conducted local choirs and orchestras.
In 1977 David returned south to work with Hertfordshire Music
Service in Broxbourne and East Herts.. He conducts the 414
Choir, Royston Choral Society, the A10 Orchestra and East
Herts Youth Orchestra. He is organist & choirmaster at
St Mary’s Church Standon and accompanist for the Priory Singers,
a group based in Royston which sings at cathedrals throughout
the country. He plays piano and harpsichord with the Ingram
Ensemble and sings the occasional bass solo.
David is delighted to have joined the Bishops Stortford Choral
Society and is looking forward to improving their sound even
further and adding to their list of achievements so far.
